McDowell County -- Christy Beaver, 49, of Marion, was charged by the McDowell County Sheriff's Office with both misdemeanor assault and felony possession of a firearm by a felon.

A $25,000 secured bond was issued.

A deputy arrived at a Marion home in response to a call on Sunday, July 6, in reference to a domestic abuse incident.  When Eudy arrived, she conversed with Beaver and a male relative and was told that she had a gun. Beaver is a convicted felon, and both state and federal laws forbid him from owning a firearm.

Following an investigation, Beaver was found to be in possession of a firearm. She was arrested and transported to the McDowell County Detention Center.

Editor's Note: A  criminal charge is an accusation, by law, a person accused of a crime is innocent until proven in a court of law.
