North Carolina --  July 28, 2025: Roy Cooper, the two-term former Governor of North Carolina, officially announced his campaign for the U.S. Senate in the 2026 election cycle today.

McDowell County -- July 28, 2025:  Greggory Cole Lowery pled guilty on July 15, 2025, in McDowell County Superior Court to possession of a handgun by a felon and trafficking in methamphetamine (400 grams or more).

Henderson County --  July 28, 2025: Blue Ridge Fire and Rescue responded to a structure fire in the East Flat Rock area on July 24, 2025, at around 9:10 p.m.

North Carolina --  A comprehensive federal spending bill, termed the "Big Beautiful Bill" by some, is set to introduce significant modifications to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), with phased implementation affecting North Carolina's residents and state finances.

Haywood County --  July 26, 2025: Haywood County has confirmed its ninth active case of pertussis, commonly known as whooping cough. Among the confirmed cases, one is an adult, the rest are children and teens under the age of 19 within the county. 

Waynesville --  July 26, 2025:  The Waynesville Police Department executed a search warrant at 20 Robinson Street on Tuesday evening.

North Carolina --  July 25. 2025:  Attorney General Jeff Jackson continued his case against FEMA for canceling over $200 million in cuts to disaster preparedness programs in North Carolina, he visited the Hillsborough River Pumping Station yesterday.  

Asheville --  July 25, 2025: An assault on a cyclist in north Asheville late on Wednesday night is being investigated by Asheville Police. 
 On Thursday, officers were called to Mission Hospital at 12:37 a.m. after learning that a biker had arrived with injuries from an assault.

Henderson County -- Good news for motorists in Henderson County: The lane closure on I-26 East near Chimney Rock Road, which was implemented due to a reported "pavement failure," has now ended.
